The Department of Parasitology generates, disseminates and applies knowledge of human parasitic diseases. The focus lies on malaria, leishmaniasis, sleeping sickness, schistosomiasis and Chagas' disease. The department actively strengthens the capacities in these fields in developing countries.

The department pursues this objective through innovative and applied research, postgraduate training and scientific support to research and control programmes.
